Si Reznor a annoncé un retour de Nine Inch Nails pour la seconde moitié de l’année 2020, Atticus Ross et lui n’oublient pas leur volet BO. Le duo a ainsi confirmé sa prochaine collaboration avec David Fincher après l’oscar pour « The Social Network » et leurs travaux communs sur « Millenium » et « Gone Girl« . Nommé « Mank », le film sera en noir et blanc et reviendra sur l’histoire de Herman Mankiewicz, co-scénariste de Citizen Kane et dont le rôle sera assuré par Gary Oldman. Un film qui sortira en direct sur Netflix (après la série Mindhunter de Fincher, pas étonnant) et qui, on n’en doute pas, se terminera mieux que la BO de « Bird Box » avec Sandra Bullock, toujours chez Netflix, et que Reznor a lui même qualifié de « putain de perte de temps ».
« When we got immersed in it, it felt like some people were phoning it in. And you’re stuck with a film editor who had real bad taste. That’s kind of our barricade to getting stuff in the film. And the final icing on the shit cake was we were on tour when they mixed it. And they mixed the music so low, you couldn’t hear it anyway. So it was like, that was a … [Laughs] That was a fucking waste of time. Then we thought, no one’s going to see this fucking movie. And, of course, it’s the hugest movie ever in Netflix. »
À noter, le duo a aussi lâché la BO du prochain film d’Amy Adams, « The Woman In The Window » en raison de nouvelles scènes tournées suite à un screen test et qui aurait pas mal modifé le projet initial.
